Leeds United Ladies booked their place in the West Riding Women’s County Cup Final with an 11-0 demolition of local rivals Leeds City Vixens.

In a repeat of last year’s final, the defending champs made a blistering start to this semi final with electrifying winger Leah Galton opening the scoring after only 50 seconds of play, the youngster latching on to Jess Holbrook’s pass before cutting inside the fullback and drilling a venomous left foot drive into the bottom corner of the net.

Leeds doubled their lead on 25 minutes when striker Carey Huegett was quickest to react to a speculative header in behind the defence before showing neat feet to deftly lob the advancing keeper.

With 33 minutes of play gone Galton grabbed her second of the game as she raced clear before rounding the keeper, before going on to complete her hat-trick in the final seconds of the half as she neatly stroked home a lovely through ball from midfielder Emma Johnson.

Leeds started the second half with the same intensity of the first and added a fifth after 50 minutes of play with Holbrook showing some neat footwork to drive into the box and dispatch a neat finish. The sixth came less than a minute later as Huegett added her second with a neat far post finish to a Galton cross.

Five minutes later the striker went on to complete her hat-trick – though in a rather bizarre fashion. The move began with great work from Tanya Rich who slipped past her fullback before whipping in a dangerous near post cross. Huegett at full stretch made decent contact with her right boot sending the ball off the right hand post across the line and off the left hand post before bouncing back out to her for the simplest of follow up chances.

With 75 minutes gone substitute Bekki Bass made her impact on the game as she slid in at the far post to convert a difficult chance at full speed. It was just reward for the promising young winger who showed some neat touches and decent intent in her cameo second half performance.

The final minutes of the match belonged to Holbrook. The midfielder having been pushed forward following Huegett’s substitution scored three quick-fire three goals to bring her match total to four – the pick of which being her final effort on 90 minutes when she raced through to lob a deft first-time right-foot shot over the keeper and perfectly into the corner.

Speaking after the game Leeds Manager Chris Welburn was a happy man. “As defending champions this is a pleasing result to take us through to the County Cup Final. We put in a strong second half performance and found some fantastic finishes.”

Leeds will face either Bradford City Ladies or Farsley Celtic Ladies in the final, again to played at Woodlesford, on Thursday 12 April.
