Well the dust has settled and the reality has hit…Leeds Carnegie Ladies as we know it are no more. After what can only be described as a rollercoaster of a season with huge highs such as the League Cup Final victory and some real lows like the University pulling the plug on our Super League bid it was certainly topped off in style with a presentation evening that was a celebration of the last 3 years.. and we certainly ensured that that happened!!

One of the highlights of the evening was seeing Biscuit [Sophie Walton] dribble gravy down her Gucci dress and watching every player try soooo desperately hard not to dribble fizzy pop down them while drinking from the League Cup itself!!

Although the season didn’t quite end with the big bang we all hoped for and our final league position was somewhat disappointing we still hit the most league points ever achieved by a Leeds side and also won the League Cup. Not only that, we created a team and a winning mentality which started in Giggleeswick and has been sadly cut short by the withdrawal of funds and lack of support.

The past three years have seen the club go from strength to strength and that is credit to not only the players but also the strong management team and those working tirelessly behind the scenes. So it was a huge kick in the teeth for all involved when the University withdrew the Super League bid and especially the timing of it as I strongly believe that this was a side that could have added quality and competition to the league and also gone from strength to strength and achieved bigger and better things.

However this is not to be and players are already having to meet with other clubs who can offer them Super League football. While this is not what any of us wanted, it was totally out of the players and managements hands and so this talented and committed squad of players will never know how good we could have been.

I would like to thank everyone who has been involved and also a special ‘thank you’ to all the parents who supported us both home and away. It has been an honour to be part of this club and while my playing time has been very limited due to injury I have still enjoyed being a part of what has been created.

Good luck to you all with your future careers

And so the curtain closes….”MARCHING ON TOGETHER”.
