Leeds United Ladies 4-0 Leeds City Vixens
West Riding Women’s County Cup Semi-Final
at Fleet Lane, Woodlesford
Goals from Hayley Sharp, Rachel Lee, Carey Huegett and Bekki Bass were enought to see Leeds comfortably through to this season’s County Cup Final as they beat rivals Leeds City Vixens by 4-0 at Woodlesford on Wednesday. You can see exactly how it happened in the live match feed below…
Nice play from Huegett as she neatly lays it back to Sharp on the edge of the box. Sharp hits it first time but its blocked and out for another corner. Swung in and cleared
freekick to Leeds as Huegett is pulled down in a central area about 25 yards out. Huegett hits the feekick but its comfortably over the bar.
Another chance for Abbi Lee as Rich escapes down the right and cuts it back for her but the shot is well well over the bar.
We’re entering the final ten minutes now – its all pretty routine now as Leeds shut up shop ahead of a tricky trip to Coventry this sunday.
Thats 4-0 now. Bekki Bass drifts in off the left wing and curls an exquisite right foot shot perfectly into the far top corner. Lovely goal from Bass as she continues her wonderful recent form.
Leeds win another corner… swung in by Huegett and Robert pokes a foot at it but it deflects wide and is cleared. Unlucky for the youngster – been impressed with her today.
We’ve settled into a pattern now as the Vixens are camped along the edge of their own box. With a healthy lead Leeds are content to play in front of them and to be honest there’s not much happening.
lovely link up between Lippo and Kez sets Lipman in on goal but she’s forced wide onto her left foot and carves the shot wide as a result. Nice move.
And it now appears that Clarke is unable to run off her knock and the Vixens are forced to use their final sub as Johnson comes on to replace her.
Another collision leaves another Vixen down on the ground. It looked innocent enough from here but they’re calling for a stretcher. Its Sam Barnett who’s injured. Suxch a shame – she only came on off the bench a few minutes ago. Messenger comes on to replace her.
Awe that’s harsh – finally back on her feet and Clarke gets a booking for her troubles. Admittedly she was late but given the state of the game I’m sure the ref could have let it slide.
Ouch!! A nasty collision leaves both Huegett and Clarke laid out – Kez just nipped ahead of the defender Clarke who was late to get there and the pair clattered into each other. Unfortunately while Huegett is back on her feet Clarke looks like she’s done herself some damage. There’s a delay while she gets treatment.
That change will see Abbi Lee slip into the central midfield role with Bass in her customary right wing role.
Sub for Leeds now as Bass replaces Rachel Lee
Oooh – so close as Sykes’ drive deflects wide for a corner. neat build up play between Emmonds and Sharp created the space for the skipper to drive into but Clarke did well to close the space and block the shot
The balls just not sticking in the final third for Leeds at the moment – they worked it nicely up until the edge of the box but the Vixens backline are sitting deep and working extremely hard to minimise any space in the box.
Leeds are confidently stroking the ball around the back. I’m sure they have Sunday’s game at Coventry in the back of their minds as there’s not the usual Leeds tempo in this game. Not that they’re struggling of course being 3-0 up.
Another Lipman cross is blocked and out for a corner…
Plasyed short to Lipman – back to Kez – wide to Abbi Lee who lobs it through for the advancing Kez but she drills it straight at the keeper. Unlucky, a yard either side and it was in.
Leeds are straight on the front foot again as Lipman makes good progress down the right and whips in a good cross but its hacked clear.
The teams are out for the second half now. No changes that I can spot for either side.
We’re off…
Apologies to Rachel Shorty Lee – it was her who scored the second not Kez (Shorty’s got the wrong number shirt on which threw me!)
So to clarify so far the Leeds goals have been…
Sharp 24
R.Lee 37
Huegett 44
Thats halftime – its 3-0 to Leeds at the break. Its hardly been a vintage performance but they’ve been more than good enough to control all phases of this game so far. We’ll be back shortly for the second half.
Great move from Leeds as Sykes has her right foot shot well saved. Lipman fed in Abbi Lee down the right who drive to the byline and cut it back for the skipper to drive. The rebound falls to Kez who neatly chips it back and into the far corner.
3-0 Leeds Kez Huegett
Its all goone a bit quiet now as we approach halftime. Leeds seem content to just keep hold of the ball and while no one can question the effort from the Vixens, they just can’t get anywhere near the ball.
Lovely covering fromm Gerogia Robert as she breaks up a promising Vixens counter attack – Leeds over comitted again, lost the ball and left the Vixens with a three on one until Robert calmly intercepted the pass.
Close again for Leeds as Rich cuts in off the left wing and curls one with her right but it drifts harmlessly past the far post.
Leeds straight back on the front foot as Huegett is hauled down on the edge of the box. Rachel Lee smashes it with her right but its over.
That’s 2-0 for Leeds as Kez Huegett neatly finishes with her right from 6 yards out. lovely ball in from Abbi Lee gave the striker the simplist of tasks.
This game’s a bit flat now. Leeds are dictating everything comfortably.
Corner to Leeds – swung in by Huegett and bravely claimed by Jakemon. that was good strong keeping in a crowded box
Abbi Lee blasts over again. Great work from the midfielder to make the space for herself but once in position she drills it well over with her left from the edge of the 6 yard box. She should have done better with that one.
Another chance as Emmonds overlaps Rich down the left and drills it across but Abbi Lee blasts over under pressure from a tight angle
Its all Leeds now as they flow forward in wave after wave of pressure. Fair play to them The Vixens are putting in plenty of effort but at the moment they just can’t cope with Leeds’ pace out wide.
There’s the opener – Hayley Sharp with the finish 1-0 Leeds.
Nice work from Sykes to intercept a wayward pass and she slips it inside to Sharp who smashes it past the stranded keeper eith her left. Nice finish for that goal from Sharp
As expected its all Leeds so far in this one but similarly to sunday’s game against Charlton, we could just do with a bit more precision and composure in the final third.
Leeds win three quick corners in succession. The third one is swung in by Huegett and Sharp heads over unmarked from only three yards out. I think she was just struggling to reach it – we’ll give her the benefit of the doubt anyway.
Freekick is taken and Leeds break with Huegett. She does well to force a corner. Corner is taken and Georgia Robert climbs well to power only inches over the bar. So close to her first Leeds goal.
Slight delay for an injury to Housecroft. Leeds were lucky there as they over commited in attack – the ball then dropped to Dobby who launched it long for Housecroft to chase. Housecroft was then taken out by the advancing Draycott. Draycott was booked for that challenge – her first ever.
Leeds are camped in the Vixens half. Rich is slipped in by Sykes but her well struck shot is turned round the near post by Jakeman in the Vixens goal
Another chance for Leeds as Abbi Lee escapes down the right and drills it near post but Kez is just beaten to it and its behind for a corner. Swung in by Kez and cleared
Leeds look like they’re settling in for a possession game today.. They’re confidently stroking it round the midfield and backline. The Vixens are chasing shadows at the moment.
First bit of possession for the Vixens as Dobby tries from distance but its comfortably saved at the near post by Draycott
Abbi Lee is finding ascres of space down the right – the Vixens will have to tighten up down that side or this could get incredibly one sided very quickly.
Another long shot for Leeds as Sharp drives it wide from the edge of the box. I can’t recall the Vixens having two consecutive passes yet.
Quick start from Leeds – Kez slams one from 20 yards that clips the bar. Nice start for Leeds and so close to the opener
We’re off…
Good evening and welcome to a cold and rainy Woodlesford.
Well despite a few problems getting into the ground (For a short time the FA wouldn’t let the manager or asst in because they hadn’t bought a ticket!) we’re all ready to go in this CC semi final clash.
Surprisingly strong team for Leeds today…
1. Jules Draycott
2. Emma Lipman
6. Billie Murphy
19. Georgia Robert
3. Stacey Emmonds
4. Rachel Lee
8. Clare Sykes
5. Hayley Sharp
18. Abbie Lee
11. Tanya Rich
9. Carey Huegett
Subs are Bassy & Nat Staneff.
Leeds are in all white with the Vixens playing in all blue…
That’s that – it’s all over here at Woodlesford as Leeds progress through to this seasons final with a comfortable 4-0 win.
