Leeds United Ladies FC 4-0 Yeovil Town Ladies
FA Cup 5th Round
Sunday 17.03.13 from Throstle Nest
Leeds safely negotiated their way into the FA Cup Quarter Final Draw as a pair of Carey Huegett goals helped them overcome Yeovil Town by 4-0 at Throstle Nest on Sunday.
Leeds couldn’t have asked for a better start to the game as they flew out the blocks to open the scoring after only 6 minutes of play. Midfielder Rachel Lee teased in a wonderful free kick from tight on the left touchline with striker Carey Huegett showing the desire to beat out her marker and neatly poke home at the near post.
Leeds then doubled their lead on 16 minutes when fullback Emma Lipman showed some lovely skill in the box to bring down another Lee free kick before swivelling in tight space to smash home across the keeper with her right.
Yeovil showed plenty of heart and endeavour to drag their way back into the game and enjoyed their best periods either side of half time. Cook, Lorton and Bray all had chances to pull one back for the visitors but as the chances went by so did Yeovil’s hopes.
Leeds all but sealed the victory in the 68th minute when Huegett emphatically dispatched a penalty low into the bottom left hand corner for her second. The striker converting herself having been pulled down from behind in the left corner of the box.
The final goal came in the 76th minute as midfielder Hayley Sharp drilled home from eight yards out when unmarked in the box. The energetic midfielder decisively finishing with her right following neat build up play from the lively Danielle Sheen down the right hand side.
“A very pleasing win,” was how manager Andy Burgess described the result after the game. “It wasn’t easy on a bobbly pitch against determined opposition but we stuck to our task and ran out comfortably in the end. We can now look forward to next week’s League Cup Semi Final away at Sunderland.”
You can see exactly how the game unfolded in Jamie’s Live match feed below…
Another chance for Bray as she muscles Robert out but again she fires straight at Draycott and the keeper comfortably deals with it. Feel slightly sorry for Bray, her hard work has warranted a consolation goal.
Bass breaks through and one on one skies it over the bar. So unlucky there the ball took a huge bobble just as she wound up to hit it.
Yeovil still working extremely hard here as Bray breaks down the right and crosses but Leeds clear.
We’re into injury time now…
Nice play from Bass as she blocks an attempted clearance and races free in to the box… she drills it low across the keeper but Howard gets down well to save. Good keeping there.
Leeds flood forward down the left with Emmonds. releasesa Sheen who cuts inside and delivers a lovely cross but Yeovil put it behind for a corner.
Swung in by Huegett….
Straight out for a goal kick.
Unbelievable miss for Yeovil. 3 yards out and Bray drags it wide of goal after being put through by Osman. She really should have buried that one.
Subs for Leeds…
Robert on for Staneff and Coates on for Sharp.
Nice long ball releases Sheen who slips it inside to Syeks but she’s eventaully crowded out. Leeds still on the attack and Lipman wins a throw. Quickly into kez who turns her marker and pulls it back to Sharp who buries it with her right.
4-0 Leeds, Hayley Sharp.
Leeds press forward again and Lee launches one from all of 35 yards. Lovely strike with her right that narrowly goes over.
Booking for Radburn. Bit harsh from where I am but it seems to be for persistent infringement.
Kez steps up and buries it in the bottom right corner. great penalty.
3-0 Leeds!! Carey Huegett.
Good play from bass as she streaks down the right to win a throw. In to kez who turns hher marker and is pulled down. Penalty to Leeds….
Leeds win another corner. Swung in by Kez ….
Cleared and Yeovil break with Cook but Leeds flood back and clear. Good hustle from leeds to get back quickly into shape.
Sub for Leeds…
Bass on for Thackray with Sheen switching to the left wing now.
Now Yeovil break and force a corner…
But Sykes climbs highest and clears.
Leeds break with Lipman down the right, she flashes a lovely cross to the far post but Sykes is unable to put it on target at full stretch with her left. Nice move from Leeds.
Close for Yeovil. Lovely looping ball in finds Bray unm, arked 8 yards out but she tries to pull it down rather than hit it first time and Leeds get across to cover. That was a clear chance and Leeds need to tighten up.
Its just gone a touch stale here as both sides striuggle to maintain possession.
Leeds press forward now. they win a throw deep down the left line, in to Sharp, crossed by Emmonds but cleared.
Long shot from Lee goes over. It was well struck but she was leaning back as she hit it. Nice work to make the space though.
Lovely ball from Lee releases Sheen again and she wins a throw. Leeds build with Lipman down the right, forward to Sheen but eventually she’s crowded out and Yeovil clear.
yeovil are building now. Radburn advances down the right but Emmonds comes across and wins the ball.
So close again for Leeds…
Sykes charges down a clearance, advances into the box but pulls her shot under pressure from Williams.
Leeds build some pressure and win a corner. Kez swings it in….
So close – Lipman gets the near post flick and it rolls along the goalline before being hacked clear. That’s better for the home side.
Lovely ball inbetween Murphy and Staneff releases Bray but the forward fires straight at Draycott. That was a warning for Leeds, they need to switch back on.
highlight of the season so far as our cameraman getsa cleared out by a yeovil clearance! Fanastatic to watch – fiar play to half a job he wobbled but stayed on his feet!
Here come Leeds. its Yeovil to kick off and here we go…
Yeovil are back out early for the second period. They look focussed and will be encouraged by the last 20 mins of the first half where they created a few chances and started to enjoy more of the ball.
Thats halftime – it’s 2-0 Leeds. Entertaining first half with Yeovil certainly still in this one. We’ll be back for the second half shortly.
Throw to yeovil but intercepted and Leeds break… but the throughball for Kez is overhit and its cleared.
bit of a lull as neither side can penetrate through midfield. The ball is just bouncing between the two with Yeovil having the better of the recent exchanges.
Good play from Thackray as she dribbles past two down the left before firing a shot straight at Howard. Good play from the new girl.
Corner to leeds as Sheen breaks. Swung in by Huegett and Howard comes to claim but drops it. Lee smashes it first time but its blocked and cleared.
Leeds have just slipped slightly off the pace here as Yeovil enjoy a decent spell. The passes aren’t finding the target and Yeovil are picking them off.
yeovil break and release Lawton but she took an extra touch and Staneff closes the gap to poke it clear. Lucky for Leeds she didn’t hit that first time.
Lovely swivel from huegett as she collects and releases Thackray. Thackray moves it back inside to Huegett but her shot is saved.
Yeovil win a throw – Katie Cook creeps into the box late, she’s not picked up, Lawton finds her but Cook drives over. Let off their for Leeds.
Todays crowd 125.
Leeds controlling it through midfield again now. they’ve been first to every second ball today. Great energy being shown from that trio of Sharp, Lee and Sykes in the middle
Leeds look threatening down the right. Sheen is spearheading the counter attacks – none of the balls have connected yet but it only looks a matter of time.
Neither side can get hold of the ball at the moment. Yeovil are flooding forward to win the ball high up the pitch and Leeds are trying to pick them off.
Yeovil starting to get some decent filed position here as they force a throw in the leeds half. The lower league side certainly haven’t given up and credit to them for fighting back into this one.
Yeovil are working hard to press in midfield and are doing a good job harrying the Leeds midfield. they’ve obviously made some adjustments after conceding the second goal.
Leeds look really up for this today. They’re popping it about with confidence and strangely even manager Andy Burgess looks content with how things are going!
2-0 Leeds!!!! Emma Lipman
Freekick to Leeds, swung in by Lee, claimed by Lipman who swivelled and smashed a right foot volley into the bottom corner. get in!!!!
Another lovely Leeds move as Thackray feeds Lee but her shot is well blocked. Heroic defending from Edwards as she flung herself out to block the shot. Lee was measuring one for the top corner there.
first bit of pressure for Yeovil and they force a corner…
Swung in and Radburn is first too it and her looping header crashes back off the bar and its cleared. Leeds break and Sharp smashes a long shot back off the bar. So close at both ends with both cross bars still shaking!
Leeds look the more composed of the two sides so far. The midfield trio of Sykes, Sharp and Lee are bossing the middle of the park.
More nice play from Lee as she tries a throughball for Sheen but the winger is just unable to get their ahead of Howard.
Another freekick to Leeds on the right corner of the box. Lee tries a cheeky near post curler but its well saved by Howard.
Leeds are certainly being positive in this one. The midfield are flooding forward and providing plenty of options for the ball carrier.
Leeds straight back on the foot front as thet force a throw deep in the Yeovil half. Lipman takes it and Sheen crosses but its cleared.
Its a freekick to Leeds as Thackray was fouled. Lee to swing in…
Whips it in near post and Huegett reacts quickest to poke home.
Its 1-0 Leeds!!!! Come On Kez Huegett, lovely desire to get their first.
Leeds starting to build some momentum now. Rachel Lee has started really well and is popping it about midfield with confidence.
So close for Leeds. Great save from Beth Howard in the Yeovil goal. Huegett slipped her marker and released Sheen on the diagonal ball, she shot first time one on one and Howard made a great save. Sheen was first to react but her follow up shot was hacked off the line by Williams after howard partially blocked it.
Still yet to settle in this one as both teams struggle for space. The midfield is congested.
Leeds immediately try to get Sheen away down the right but its over hit and out for a goal kick.
Here we go. Leeds get us under way…
Both teams are on the field now as we get ready for k.o.
Another quick shout out to Kate C who I know is following along at home today…
Leeds are playing in all blue today with Yeovil in thier traditional green and white. Should be a cracker of a game. These two sides met recently in the League Cup with the Whites coming away from Yeovil with a hard fought 1-0 win.
