It's a big week both on and off the pitch PDF Print E-mail

Its going to be a busy week this week with a Semi Final for Leeds, an England game and of course the Masquerade Ball. I think I have at last found my outfit and the best bit is my mask it’s an absolute classic, very silly but funny. Hopefully a few of you will be there to have a good laugh at me, if you know who I am that is. (I think my hair may give it away though).

Sue SmithWe have a massive game at the weekend against recently crowned Winners of the League Cup, Everton. It’s the Semi Final of the FA Cup and we are desperate for some success this year. The FA Cup is always a great way to do this. It is going to be a really tough game but we are preparing as well as we can and I know myself and the girls will give it our all. If you are at a loose end on Sunday please come and support us the game is at Southport FC and it will definitely spur us on.

The England girls beat Northern Ireland on Thursday night 2-0 I don’t think it was the best performance but the three points are vital and we still remain top of the group. I received my call up for the next game against the Czech Republic. These are without a doubt going to be our hardest opponents and we will have to be at the top of our games to get a result. Its great for both myself and Carly as it is going to be played at the Keepmoat stadium (Doncaster) so its like a home game. Again please come and support us it is on Thursday 20th March 7.05pm kick off. Alternatively if its freezing cold you can watch it in the comfort of your own homes as it is being shown live on BBC3. This also means you can see (hear) our very own Lucy Ward doing the commentary so its bound to be very entertaining!

I don’t know if any of you read the Sun newspaper after the League Cup Final? If you did you will have read an article in which I got slated for my commentary, apparently I said “great” a lot during the game. Coming from near Liverpool this is a massive part of my vocabulary and I am sure its better than saying ‘errrrrrm’ or ‘you know’!! Its quite disappointing that the only thing The Sun finds to write about that particular Women’s game is me is pretty sad. The worst thing is it does nothing to promote Women’s Football when it could use the quite powerful voice it has to celebrate the footballing talent on show. That could be asking too much of this particular paper though and on the bright side any publicity is good publicity so thanks I think your paper is great!!!

Before I go I will have to tell you a story. At one of our recent Leeds games I was asked to sign an autograph for a young man and as I was signing he said “Can you put your number on there please?” My giggly answer was “Haha that’s a bit cheeky I don’t even know you!”. “ Your shirt number….?” , was his rather deadpan reply. I was really embarrassed but all the girls found this highly amusing. So if you’re the young man my apologies for assuming the worst.
