Hey Guys

The weather has been crazy again this week, with gale force winds, hail, rain, sun and even snow. I think I experienced most of these conditions training at Boston Spa last Thursday. So we didn’t know if the game against Birmingham would be on, on Sunday.

Sue SmithWe had no call so away we went. I had done an interview earlier on in the week for the programme and when we arrived a I had a 4 page spread with lots of pictures and my entire life story, so you can imagine the stick that I got from all the girls in the changing room. It was really embarrassing but I am sure my mum will love it!! We knew the game was going to be a scrap and a battle because of the conditions. We have often slipped up against Birmingham in the past but thankfully on Sunday we managed to win the game 3-2. It wasn’t pretty but its another confidence booster for our Cup run, and a well earned three points in the league. Speaking of the cup our Quarterfinal draw is against Cardiff away. This isn’t an easy draw by any means but we know it is within our capabilities to win the game and progress to the semi final. We haven’t played them at all this season so they are a bit of an unknown quantity. Every draw in the cup has been over 300 miles away (it’s a good job we all get on)

Our partners Leeds Carnege University had a special visitor on Friday. The Sports Minister came to have a look around the University and meet people associated with it. He specifically asked to meet some of the people associated with Leeds United Ladies so a few of us went along to meet him. I was fully expecting the meeting to be a token gesture and for him to know very little about the sport. I was pleasantly surprised he had already met with Hope Powell and a few of the players. So he was well aware of the things that needs to improve in the women’s game if it ever has a chance to go professional. He seemed like a really nice guy with lots of ideas and was very proactive about sport and Women’s sport in general. (Watch this space)

There has been a lot of talk for the last few weeks regarding will David Beckham get his 100th cap? It was announced last week that he hasn’t been selected in Fabio’s 30-man squad. I understand his reasoning for this that he isn’t match fit as he hasn’t played for a few months. A lot of you will probably disagree with me, but I would never leave a man like him out. Even if I didn’t play him his experience and sheer desire to play for his country would help to nurture some of the young players through. He is still the best pin point crosser of a ball and can create and score goals better than anyone we have. Maybe I’m biased but I think that is Fabio’s first mistake. Lets hope he proves me wrong.

I am away in Cyprus next time I write to you so hopefully it will be gorgeous sunshine (don’t be jealous now). We have two friendly games over their Norway and Sweden. These will both be a really good test for us.
