England went down 1-0 to the USA at their opening game in the U20 Four Nations Tournament in La Serena, Chile.
In an even match, watched by a crowd of 2,500 at Estadio La Portada, the only goal game at the end of the first half, Teresa Noyola volleying home from a Nikki Washington cross.
Mo Marley's side went close to an equaliser in the second-half but were denied by fine saves from keeper Alyssa Naeher.
In the other fixture, Chile held Norway to a 3-3 draw, with Tina Wulf Eikeland and June Tårnes (2) on target for the Norwegians.

LA MANGA U23 TOURNAMENT
USA 1-3 England
England opened their La Manga U23 Tournament campaign with a 3-1 victory over the USA, where there was drama with three late goals after USA keeper Kelsey Davis had been sent-off.
England took a 38th minute lead as Rebecca Angus headed home from a Lynda Shepherd cross. With 11 minutes to go, Michelle Evans doubled the lead after the USA were caught in possession.
The USA struck back immediately through Kiki Bosio to set up a tense finish but Rachel Williams pounced on a mistake in the 88th minute to chip substitute keeper Val Henderson.
In the other game, Germany defeated Norway 1-0, with a Stephanie Goddard goal on half-time.
