Liverpool are always a tough hard working team, who don't give away too many goals, Leeds had a couple of early chances the best from Sue Smith when Sophie Walton played a lovely through ball for her to run onto, the race was on as to whether the keeper or Sue Smith would get there first, the keeper managed to smoother the ball at Smith's feet and prevent a shot at an open goal.
Leeds continued the pressure and in the 24th minute the pressure paid off, good work in midfield by Walton and Holtham allowed Smith to use her skill and trickery in the box, as she turned to shoot, as she did her legs were taken away from her and the ref quickly pointed to the spot. Amanda Barr picked the ball up without hesitation and slotted the ball to the keepers left to put Leeds ahead.
Leeds went further ahead in the closing stages of the first half, Sue Smith causing more problems with her quick feet and sublime skill, jinking past two players turning and then cheekily chipping the keeper, when Smith is in this form you see why she was once in a FIFA World selected squad.
Half time 2-0
Katie Holtham pulled up with a hamstring injury in the closing minutes and it was to be the last we saw of her in the game, as she didn't come back out in the second half, youngster Mel Sutcliffe replaced her
Leeds played their best football in the opening few 10 minutes of the second half, substitute Mel Sutcliffe is beginning to get a reputation as Leeds United Ladies new super sub, the Liverpool defence didn't know how to cope with her pace and drive as she ran at the defence, within 5 minutes of the restart she found herself with just the keeper to beat, but struck the ball straight at her, within another five minutes Sutcliffe made up for that by blasting home a more difficult effort which gave the keeper no chance, to put Leeds three goals in front.
Leeds had further chances increase the score from Barr, whose header six yards from goals flew wide as well as Smith a & Houghton who both had shots just over the barr.
Leeds keeper Carly Telford had very little to do all game, the closest coming in the last few minutes when Liverpool were convinced a loose ball crossed the line but the assistant ref who was exactly in line with the Gaol was adamant it didnt after Telford allowed the ball to spill in the mud, Alex Culvin eventually cleared the ball into touch.
